Years ago Jim and Nancy Whelan, a Rough Collie named Brody and an Australian
Shepard named Taffy had a dream.
Nancy and Brody had for years traveled many miles to learn the task
of herding sheep and to attend dog trials, which would show off the
skills that Brody had learned. By this time the Taffy had considered
herself semi retired and other than a real hate for the grooming brush
she simply enjoyed sharing the family dream.
The family dream was to own a small farm, perhaps five to ten acres
with a few sheep to practice the skills of a herding dog. The family
had looked at many places, drove many miles and talked with many realtors
in the hopes that they could fulfill this dream.
After almost giving up on the dream, the family turned to God and asked
for his help in finding the right place. Soon thereafter God answered
the prayer and this farm seemed to walk right into the family's sight.
After many months of negotiations, several serious visitations and much
prayer, the farm became home for this family of "four." Thus
the name, "Promised Land Farm."
It wasn't long before ten sheep started grazing the pastures (some
are still here) and several chickens followed those. Now the flock of
sheep has grown to almost fifty, a wonderful herd of goats share the
pastures and numerous other "critters" enjoy God's gift to
this family. And don't be surprised if you see a goose roaming with
the sheep.
Brody and Taffy have since been laid to rest in the yard they called
home for several years. Four other dogs are attempting to follow their
footsteps.
The turkey sales came as a way to share Thanksgiving, and this lovely
farm, with other people of all ages. Many Thanksgiving turkeys grace
the pastures of this farm during the summer and give this family months
of enjoyment (and work). We hope you enjoy your visit to the farm as
much as we enjoy having you here with us.
The turkey day sale is a family event and we invite all of our customers
to come with their family to pick out their turkey, see how it was raised
and meet the other critters on the farm. We hope this will be an annual
event for families similar to picking out a family Christmas tree.
